Lakewood Church's Pastor Marcos Witt Returns Home After Accident, Thankful for Prayers

Marcos Witt has announced that he is leaving hospital and is on the way home after a serious boat accident. He took to his Twitter account to give thanks for the prayers he had received from friends and fans.

The former Pastor of the Hispanic Congregation of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, suffered the mishap while jumping from a water vehicle during a family activity in Lake Conroe, near Houston, TX, on Sept. 23.

Witt was admitted to a local hospital where he remained until this week to receive treatment for multiple fractures in both of his legs. During his time in the hospital the pastor also had to undergo surgery.

"I would like to ask for your prayers, because this afternoon I suffered an accident and I fractured both legs and ankles; I am about to enter the surgery room," he wrote in his Facebook.

The accident took place nearly one week after he announced his resignation from Lakewood Church, the Hispanic congregation he founded and pastored for 10 years.

"Today, Sunday September 16, 2012, marks 10 years since Miriam and I celebrated a commitment to Pastor Joel Osteen to found and lead the Hispanic congregation of Lakewood Church. It has been an honor for our family to be part of this congregation over the past decade," he said to the congregation, accompanied by his wife Miriam.

Witt has been experiencing major health challenges since last year and was urged by doctors to take a break from his regular busy schedule. He has been active in ministry for over 31 years, and his plan was to take a break for about three months before starting on any other new projects.

Despite his recent unfortunate accident, Witt has received some good news. He was recently nominated for the seventh time for the 2012 Latin Grammys in the Best Christian Album in the Spanish Language category. He has previously won the award four times.
