LAPD Rejects Outrageous Highway Use Requests During Carmageddon

The three day shut-down of California’s most essential highway 405 has invoked strange requests from residents, including a Facebook group that proposes a block party, complete with beer and guitars, to take place on a Santa Monica Boulevard ramp to 405.

Cyclists added to the unusual queries, requesting to ride the steep inclines of the highway in Sepulveda Valley during the closure.

Other random requests included enterprising marketers suggesting that a bridge on the highway be painted “The Apes Will Rise”, to advertise the upcoming “Planet of the Apes” movie premiering August 5.

All these requests were unsurprisingly denied by the Los Angeles Police Department, with an explanation that the laws of safety and highway use still applied despite the temporary closure.

Commander Andy Smith told the Los Angeles Times, “In planning for this closure, we gathered the best emergency around, we tried to think of everything but some of these requests are beyond even what we had anticipated.”

Anyone who violates the LAPD ‘s decisions can expect “a swift and certain police response,” Smith says.

He gave a stern warning: “We’ll have a lot of cops out there and they will be looking for something to do.”
