'Law and Order: SVU' Season 16 Finale Will See Benson Facing the Truth of Losing Baby Noah

NBC's hit police-procedural TV drama series "Law and Order: SVU" is now ready to kick off its Season 16 finale episode. As suggested by the title "Surrendering Noah," it is clear that the episode will tackle on the issue as to whether or not Benson (Mariska Hargitay) retains her parenthood on the baby.

Aside from the family issue, the SVU squad is also facing some sort of mutiny, with the Detectives determined to oust Benson from her position as Lieutenant.

Executive producer Warren Leight opened up recently, teasing further the role that the infamous Johnny D (Charles Halford) has in affecting Benson's adoption of the infant.

"Unfortunately, we know the biological father of baby Noah is Johnny D, who is the worst of the worst rapist sex traffickers that we've seen, and raped Ellie Porter, Noah's mom, when he had enslaved her. He's an all around bad, bad guy," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"He's going to try to claim that the reason NYPD is focused on him is because the sergeant is attempting to adopt his kid and he stands in the way of that adoption, so they want him put away. All he has to do is create a little bit of reasonable doubt in one juror and he's free. If he's free, he can then petition to end the adoption of Noah. He sees NYPD as having ruined his life, so he's going to ruin Benson's if he can," the executive producer explained.

On the other side of the battlefield, Benson will also have to face the big shift that is about to happen in the once unified crime-fighting squad.

"It's clear that after the finale, the squad will not be the same," the showrunner said.

Although the EP spoke about some "huge surprises" that are expected to drop during the season ender, he did however told the people from TV Guide that there won't be a cliff-hanger.

"I hate to give away there's not a cliff-hanger because the stakes are pretty high, [but] for the most part they wrap up by the end of the episode," he said in the interview.

"Law & Order: SVU" Season 16 Finale airs this Wednesday, May 20, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
