'Law And Order: SVU' Season 17 Spoilers: Benson, Team Tackle 'He-said, She-said' Rape Case

On Wednesday, Jan. 20, NBC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" Season 17 will finally premiere the highly-anticipated episode which is reportedly directed by series star, Mariska Hargitay, herself.

Lt. Olivia Benson, played by Hargitay, and her team will be dealing with "a murky he-said, she-said date rape case" which eventually ruins the lives of two high school students, the synopsis from The Futon Critic said.

The promo video for the episode titled "A Misunderstanding," which can be seen on YouTube,  featured two youngsters at a party who seemed to be flirting with each other. Scenes then erupted showing the girl, who appears to be distraught, on the witness stand saying that she "didn't want to have sex." On the contrary, the young male claimed that "she was into it."

Benson speculated that there could be some misunderstanding between the two teenagers. The lieutenant prodded the victim if she said "yes," perhaps, to the boy's invitation and the trailer cut off.

Last week, "Law and Order: SVU" aired what is thought to be the most intense episode in Season 17 yet. Spoiler alert for those who missed the episode titled "Townhouse Incident," Benson was asked for help but soon she finds herself in a deadly predicament which, as fans may notice, echoed that of the hostage situation involving William Lewis.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hargitay revealed that it was not really easy for her alter-ego to handle that incident.

"There are so many layers to play there, with someone who has been through that kind of trauma. The interesting thing is also that at a time when she needs the world to be a safe place for her son, she has been given yet more evidence that it's simply not," she told THR. "It's an 'interesting reality for a character to metabolize, to process, and try to overcome.'"

"Law and Order: SVU" Season 17 Episode 12 "A Misunderstanding" premieres Wednesday, Jan. 20, on NBC.
