The Lutheran Campus Mission Association (LCMA) will be hosting an event to encourage and equip campus workers, lay volunteers, and college students alike as they gather for learning, fellowship, and celebration.

"Fan the Flame," based on 2 Timothy 1:6-7, is the theme of the first Campus Mission Confabulation for the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

The Confabulation, which will be held June 23-26, 2005, in Chicago, Ill., is for “persons who are interested in campus mission ministry just as much as it's for those who are already part of a campus mission ministry,” according to Greg Witto, chairman of the Confabulation planning committee.

"If you're near a college or university, you're near a big mission field," said Witto.

During the event, breakout sessions will be led by various campus ministry veterans and will include the following topics: Developing a Plan for Missions; Outreach Strategies, Tools, and Techniques; Reaching Out in Small Groups; Funding the Mission; Service Learning; and Connecting with Lutheran Student Fellowship.

The keynote speaker will be Rev. Larry Krueger, assistant to the president of the LCMS and a former campus pastor serving Texas A&M University.

“As the assistant to the president, Rev. Krueger is actively involved in Ablaze!—a strategic effort to ignite a worldwide Lutheran mission movement to share the Gospel with 100 million people,” stated the LCMS. “As a former campus pastor, he remains passionate about sharing the Gospel on campus.”

LCMA, the mission society hosting the event, is partnering with LCMS World Mission to promote campus mission ministry on its behalf. It provides creative leadership to enable and empower campus ministers and the broader Church to be effective witnesses of Christ in the academic community and the world.

According to the LCMS, the ministry focus of LCMA is, in conjunction with Ablaze!, to ignite an energized, Spirit-led, mission focused, self-generating movement among students as well as faculty and staff to share Christ with 4.5 million people by 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

For the Confabulation, LCMA will subsidize a portion of the costs, thanks to a grant from LCMS World Mission.

Additional information and registration materials for the Confabulation will soon be available online at www.lcma.info. Questions regarding the Confabulation can be emailed to campusmission@yahoo.com.
