Leah Remini - 'Leaving Scientology Made Our Family Closer,' Actress Says Ahead of New Reality Show

Leah Remini says that leaving Scientology with her family has brought them all closer. Fans will get to see just how close the Remini clan is on her new reality TV show debuting soon on TLC.

"We're learning new ways to reconnect with each other, so it really has brought us closer together," Remini told Ellen DeGeneres. "We're stronger and we're having so much fun together and this is something that the family loves to do."

Remini and her family had been longtime members of the Church of Scientology before she began having problems with leader David Miscavige and making the decision to leave. Her family joined her in leaving, which was no small feat for the family. Remini and her mother, Vicki, are especially close. When Remini was on "The Talk," Vicki was always in the audience, and she was in the audience during her appearance on "Ellen."

"My mother thinks she's a star anyway," Remini joked. "She thinks she's pretty genius. From this, she keeps saying things like, 'I think I'm going to get my own sitcom deal.' She thinks she's that hysterical. Can you imagine your mother saying she wanted a tramp stamp? Can you imagine at a Bar Mitzvah, her pulling down her Hanes grandma underwear to show this?"

The new reality show, which still does not have a title, will focus on Remini's daily life which includes her relationships with husband Angelo Pagan, her parents, and 9-year-old daughter Sofia. Sofia apparently was not thrilled about having her life filmed and made demands of her own, Remini teased.

"Sofia, my daughter, doesn't love it. She's in negotiations with TLC right now. She's considering continuing if she gets a Chanel purse. She has a whole list of things," Remini said.

Of course, this is the light-hearted side of what's been a turbulent year for the actress and her family. They received plenty of backlash from friends after leaving the Church of Scientology but always stood firm in their belief that they were doing the right thing for their family.
