NBA star LeBron James is engaged to his long time girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, after she accepted his proposal on New Year’s Eve.

James, 27, surprised 25-year-old unsuspecting bride to be with a teardrop-cut diamond ring, ultimately reducing her to tears.

Although the couple was at Miami Beach’s Shelborne Hotel celebrating the Miami Heat star's 27th birthday party, the celebration soon changed focus and centered on the pair's newfound engagement, according to Essence.com.

James kept it traditional, dropping to a bended knee and asking Brinson for her hand in marriage, to which she excitedly responded with "Yes!"

Brinson, who is also the mother of James' two sons, 7-year-old LeBron Jr. and 4-year-old Bryce, was glowing the following day at the Miami Heat-Charlotte Bobcats game, where she sported her sparkler- allegedly worth at least $450,000.

The pair received congratulatory shoutouts on Twitter soon after their engagement news hit the web.

Lala Anthony, wife of New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, tweeted, "CONGRATS are in order!! 2012 has already come w/a BANG!! Congrats to @KingJames and @SavannahRB on their engagement!! We love you guys!!"

James also spoke about his decision to propose soon after, saying, "It was real cool...It was an opportunity for me with my personal life, so it was good. My girl, she's very excited."

"She would love to answer more questions about it than me. But she’s happy, my family’s happy and that’s what it’s all about. … It should be a surprise. For any woman, any time something like that happens, she was surprised," James added.

The couple's family and friends were all present for the memorable event, including James' teammates Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.

It is unclear whether a wedding date has been set.
