'Legend of Korra' Book 4 Release Date, Latest News: Series 'Essentially Done,' New Villain to Challenge the Avatar

With all the speculations surrounding the initiative to transfer the "Legend of Korra" from air broadcast to digital platform, fans of the show are already wondering what will happen next for the female Avatar. Fortunately, there's good news. Here's what we've found out so far:

"The Legend of Korra" will continue for another season. Co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino confirmed that Book 4 will be happening.

In a follow-up interview with writer and creator Bryan Konietzko, IGN was able to find out that the cartoon series "is essentially done." As revealed, there will be a new villain that is definitely "not a spirit or Red Lotus member."

Although the team is already working on its post-production stage, information about the official release date wasn't announced yet. With the airing cancellation from Nickelodeon, the show will most likely be "digital-only."

However, there's been a substantial amount of speculations with regards to what will happen in the fourth and final season. KPopstarz stated in their publication that "LoK" could follow the lead of its predecessor, "Avatar: The Last Airbender" where its finale was focused on the Fire Nation. They also pointed out other sources saying that the book will be entitled "Balance."

In line with these reports, there's news from Variety indicating partnership struck between DreamWorks Animation and South Korean-based Studio Mir. According to the publication, the big studios will work on 2D-animation series which will consist of 78 episodes.

Further information was given by Korea Herald specifying that the two animation giants are set "to produce up to four TV cartoon series over the next four years," of what titles or genre we don't know yet.

"The contract between DreamWorks and Studio Mir is a landmark in that it is a partnership of equals. This contract is a solid opportunity for the entire Korean animation industry to create a better workforce and infrastructure in the field of animation," Yoo Jae-myung, founder and CEO of Studio Mir explained.
