'Lego Movie 2' Release Date, Plot Rumors: Directors Just Turned In The First Draft

As a Thanksgiving gift to fans, directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller confirmed last week that they have already penned and submitted the first draft of the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2014 hit animated action-adventure comedy film, "The Lego Movie," "The Lego Movie 2."

In a Twitter post, Miller wrote that he "just turned in the official first draft of LEGO Movie 2." He went on to offer his holiday greetings to his followers.

Lord and Miller won't be the pair who will be sitting on the director's chair. However, the two plays a huge part in the development of the project as they were signed to pen the script. The writers have implied in their earlier interviews that the events of the sequel will take place four years after what happened in the first film.

"Well I don't want to give you spoilers but we were really interested in what happens to that boy who's in the meta story in the first movie when he's four years older," the scribes told Empire.

Both Lord and Miller expressed their interest in exploring the changes of the boy's point of view now that he'd be assumed to be already at his adolescent age.

They also planned to "have the characters start in a different place from the first movie." The original film featured the voice-acts of Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski, Will Ferrell as Lord Business, Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle/Lucy, Will Arnett as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Liam Neeson as the Bad Cop/Good Cop, just to name a few.

February of this year, production company Warner Bros. announced that Rob Schrab will be helming the sequel. Schrab has served as TV helmer for a number of episodes in shows like "Community," "Parks and Recreation," and "The Mindy Project."

"The Lego Movie Sequel" is slated to hit the theaters May 18, 2018.
