LG G5 Tipped To Be Unveiled During MWC 2016

Korean device manufacturer LG is teasing that something "playful" is happening on February 21, one day before the start of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Through the company's Facebook page, a "Save the Date" post was shared, indicating that they have an announcement to make on February 21, the day when "Play begins." According to a Tech Times report, companies usually make their big announcement ahead of the start of the Congress in order to get more media attention ahead of other companies. LG is no exception.

Last year, the company was mum about what its next flagship, the LG G5, looks like, leaving consumers with just rumors and unsubstantiated reports about the phone's specs and design. With this recent news, LG has somewhat confirmed that it is indeed unveiling its flagship during the MWC. Rumors have been pointing to a launch particularly during the said event.

LG also confirmed in another report that they are indeed launching the LG G5 in Barcelona. Given that the launch date is quite near, the report speculates that LG may release official information about the device within the next few weeks.

In the meantime, while waiting for the official specs to come out, consumers will have to rely on initial reports. Among the new features that the device will sport is iris recognition, which is better than fingerprint recognition at offering additional device security.

The LG G5 is rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, the latest chipset from Qualcomm, which is paired with 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage is said to be at 32 GB. It will have a 5.3-inch display with Quad HD resolution at 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The phone is also equipped with a 16-megapixel main rear-facing camera which has laser autofocus and RGB sensor. Battery capacity will be at 2,880 mAh.

Another innovative feature on the device is reported to be a hardware expansion slot called the "Magic Slot" which can be used to install new hardware modules, according to the report.
