Lil Wayne Dead? False Rumors Circulate Throughout the Web

It appears that Lil Wayne, a popular rapper, is just another in a long list of celebrity death hoaxes that have sprung up no Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets.

Early this week a Facebook page titled, "R.I.P Lil Wayne" popped up, claiming that the 30-year-old rapper had passed away.

"At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (July 02, 2013), our beloved rapper Lil Wayne passed away. Lil Wayne was born on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page," a message on the Facebook page read.

However, it appears that the Facebook page and reports of the rapper's death were all a hoax. The rapper's representatives said "He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," according to MediaMass.net.

Using social media to spread fake rumors of celebrity death's seems to be a recent trend, as Lil Wayne is hardly the first to fall victim to this dark hoax.

In a similar hoax in March, "R.I.P. Paul McCartney" became a trending topic on Twitter, despite the fact that the former Beatle was alive and well, E Online reports.

It was falsely spread on Twitter that Eddie Murphy died in a snowboarding accident, though no such accident occurred. Rowan Atkinson, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, and countless other celebrities have also fallen victim to fake death hoaxes.

But thanks to confirmation for his representatives, fans of Lil Wayne can rest assured that the 30-year-old rapper is alive and well
