WASHINGTON – Pro-Life activist Lila Rose says she would abandon the Republican Party if it catered to libertarian voters by dropping the pro-life issue from its platform at the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit this past weekend.

When asked whether there would be a third party if Republicans abandoned social issues, Rose, who is also the president of Live Action, told The Christian Post, "Absolutely, and I would be the first to join it!"

"We can play these games about the economy, but at the end of the day people do vote on social issues," the pro-life activist argued. She said the issues of abortion and gay marriage motivate a crucial voting bloc among the American people more than balancing the budget or decreasing the size of government.

In order to win in the 2014 and 2016 elections, Republicans must speak out for those who are weak – the unborn, Rose added. "The Left is unafraid and unashamed to stand up for their pet projects, abortion and homosexual activism," she noted. "We need to have the same courage in standing up for the truth, for family, for marriage, and for life."

Rose argued that there is no fundamental reason why Democrats should support abortion, but added that "it's really hard" because most Democrats do not vote or legislate pro-life. Party should not keep Americans from defending "fundamental human rights."

"Any party that is protecting that fundamental right for all people, we say vote for it," Rose declared.

When asked about the government shutdown, the Live Action president said that the abortion industry should be shut down. "The World War II Memorial and Catholic mass and church services are shut down for our troops, but Planned Parenthood is still open, getting $1.5 million a day from the government," she declared. While all "non-essential" government services have been suspended for the shutdown, Planned Parenthood still receives subsidies and over 3,000 children each day are aborted in the U.S., Rose said.

She blamed the shutdown on President Obama's unwillingness to negotiate "with common sense requests from across the aisle that most Americans wanted." An outspoken opponent of Obama's healthcare overhaul, the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, Rose complained about the injustice of the system.

"Why do big business and the president's family get exempted from Obamacare while small businesses and normal, everyday working American families didn't?" Rose asked. She praised Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for his 21-hour speech on the Senate floor against the healthcare law.

"I think Ted Cruz is taking a courageous stand, and where I would stand with him is any time the government is going to force Americans to pay for abortion, we should fight tooth and nail and say we will not do it, we cannot comply," the Live Action President declared.

Rose did not limit her remarks to the issue of abortion, however. The second most important issue, she explained, is "what's happening to Christians in the Middle East, who are being tortured, brutalized, churches burnt to the ground." Echoing Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), she argued that American Christians need to pressure the U.S. government to protect their threatened brothers and sisters across the world.
