Tiffany Mitchell, the Lindsay Lohan accuser who says the actress punched her at a New York City nightclub, is going under the microscope. Lohan, who has denied the assault, has hired a private investigator to look into the background of her accuser.

Lohan's move comes after Mitchell hired powerful attorney Gloria Allred to represent her following the alleged assault that took place Wendesday night at Avenue nightclub.

According to TMZ, a source close to the actress said Lohan is hiring a private investigator to see if Mitchell has a history of extortion. Lohan has repeatedly claimed that people who have reported to her authorities are just after her money.

But in this case, Lohan may have a case. Gossip Extra reported that Mitchell, a psychic, used to target rich socialites in Palm Beach, once charging a woman $43,000 to cleanse her aura.

Lohan has told friends that she did not hit her accuser in an assault but only confronted her when she thought Mitchell and her friends has stolen her purse, reported TMZ.

But that's not what happened, according to Mitchell. The psychic said Lohan got jealous of her a member of a boy band started flirting with her instead of the actress. When Mitchell offered her private psychic reading, Lohan got angry. Words were exchanged and when Mitchell insulted Lohan's movie Liz and Dick, that's when Lohan allegedly punched her.

Mitchell's husband Wayne Stevens also had his own account of what transpired, according to the police report. He said that "[Lohan] went over and pushed my wife hard. I don't even know why she pushed her … About five minutes later she comes around and told my wife 'I need space' or something like that. And then she just punched her."

Right after the alleged altercation, Stevens told ABC News: "We don't even want to leave the house at this moment … She's all swollen … Her cheek is swollen … She's pretty aggravated."

However, Lohan's accuser resurfaced in public two days after the reported incident.
