Lindsay Lohan arrived in court yesterday and made the decision to reject a plea deal from prosecutors and instead take her chances with a trial. The move came amid drama surrounding Lohan's lawyer and her probation.

"There was a plea bargain offer on the table for Lindsay to go to rehab for nine months, but she absolutely refused that," a source close to Lohan told Radar Online. "Mark won't sign off on a deal that sends Lindsay to rehab for more than 60 days."

Mark Heller, Lohan's lawyer, has replaced her original defense attorney Shawn Holley after Lohan fired her. There are rumors that Lohan owes Holley up to $300,000 in past legal expenses but refuses, or may not be able, to pay her.

"Lindsay owes Shawn over $300,000 in legal fees and she hasn't made any payments to her in over six months. Lindsay hadn't paid anything for any of the work Shawn has done on her three new criminal charges of lying to cops in connection with her car accident in Santa Monica last summer," a source revealed.

It was up to Heller to negotiate the best deal possible for his client in New York court yesterday.

"Mark believes he can get Lindsay acquitted of all criminal charges stemming from her car accident in Santa Monica last summer. Lindsay has convinced Mark that she never lied to cops when they asked her if she was driving the car that day," Radar Online reported.

Now Lohan will take her chances with a trial, which could land her a jail sentence. It's a risk she seems willing to take, and there is the possibility that Lohan could take the stand in her own defense, which may or may not play well with jurors.

"She feels that once a jury hears her side of events she will be acquitted," the source told Radar Online.

Lohan has also had trouble with her latest film, "The Canyons," which is an erotic thriller. The film was rejected not only by the Sundance Film Festival but also by South by Southwest, two well-known and respected premiere sites. It's Lohan's latest piece of work, and from the sounds of it, it has not gone over well with critics.

"It's got an ugliness and a deadness to it," a South by Southwest insider told The Hollywood Reporter.
