Lindsey Conn World Cup Ski Champion Takes 16-Year-Old to Homecoming

Lindsey Vonn, a World Cup skiing champion has accepted an ambitious offer from a Colorado high school sophomore who asked her to go with him to his homecoming dance Friday night.

Parker McDonald, a 16-year-old Nordic skier attended the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy’s homecoming dance with 27-year old Lindsey Vonn, a three-time World Cup winner and Alpine ski racer.

Vonn wrote on her Facebook wall, “Yesterday I visited the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy and while I was eating lunch with all the students, a 16-year -old boy named Parker asked me if I would be his date for their homecoming dance, which is tonight. When Parker asked me he was cute, nervous and very polite so of course I said YES!”

There was no other motive to McDonald’s successful quest. He said, “I asked her because she’s awesome!”

“I thought, ‘I need a date and there’s Lindsey Vonn. I’ll ask her!” McDonald sad. She walked by my lunch table and I whipped out the question.”

The famous female athlete’s decision to accept McDonald’s request was hugely popular with her fans as that particular status update garnered close to 3,000 “likes” and 627 comments.

Vonn, a Vail, Colo. native reportedly was too busy with her hectic training schedule as a teenager to attend school dances so she made up for lost time while visiting her old stomping grounds.

On Twitter many people gave her a virtual high five for attending the date with McDonald. One person tweeted, “I have a lot of respect for Lindsay Vonn for being so kind to that 15 year old boy & making his dream come true.”

According to The Daily Vail, the famous athlete was in town training at Snowboard Club Vail’s new Golden Peak training center with the U.S. Ski Team for the next World Cup event in Aspen, Colo. on Nov. 27-28.

In 2010 Vonn received the Laureus World Sports Award for sportswoman of the year.

VSSA is the nation’s first public winter sports academy. Students are in grades 6-12 and train six days a week in the winter. Their coursework is completed with the help of flexible scheduling and online access to their instructors.
