'Robin Hood: Origins' Cast Rumors: On the Hunt for Its Lead Actor

With four "Robin Hood" movie projects in the works in Hollywood, it is not surprising to see the studios trying to get ahead of each other as they try to develop their movies. Lionsgate is one of those studios, and according to the report, the studio has reportedly started hunting for the lead star for its film "Robin Hood: Origins."

According to Variety, Lionsgate is said to be going after several young actors, hoping that they will be able grab the best talent for their film. The list of potential Robin Hoods includes young actors from the U.K. and the U.S. Included in the list is British actor Taron Egerton, who most recently played the young man turned spy in the surprise hit "Kingsman" opposite Colin Firth. Egerton, however, according to the report may be in a bind when it comes to his schedule if the sequel to the "Kingsman" will be given a go by Twentieth Century Fox.

Another British actor included in the list of Jack Huston, who is known for his role in the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire." His film credits includes a role in "American Hustle." He was supposed to be in talks for the lead role in "The Crow" but this did not push through.

Irish-American actor Jack Reynor is also rumored to be in the running. Reynor's film credits include a major role in the 2014 "Transformers," which he is expected to reprise in "Transformers 5." The actor also had the privilege of having a session with the film's director Otto Bathurst which the report said gives him points over the other actors on the list. But the report also said that no decisions have been made as of yet.

The film is being helmed by Bathurst, and is based on a screenplay by Joby Harold, the same screenwriter who wrote Guy Ritchie's "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" starring Charlie Hunnam. The film is expected to be a different kind of origins story, one that is "gritty and revisionist."

The report also said that Lionsgate is hoping to start film production by the first quarter of 2016.
