'Little People, Big World' Star Compares Separation to Death

"Little People, Big World" star Amy Roloff has gone public with her feelings about separating from husband of 26 years, Matt. The couple announced their separation just weeks ago, and Amy has compared it to going through a death.

"It's sad. It's sad because we don't really have a plan and when you do this and you don't have a plan, it's not going to happen overnight," Amy said during the hour-long special that aired on Tuesday night. "To tell you the truth, it's like a death. You get numb, you don't know what to do. Going through all of this, it is like a grieving process because you have to slowly begin to let go."

"Little People, Big World" was one of the first reality series on TLC, and the Roloff family became famous for living their daily lives. Matt and Amy both have dwarfism, as does one of their four children. They wanted to go public with their story to educate people about living with dwarfism and have since gone on to do public speaking engagements as well as hour-long specials after the series officially ended.

"Amy and I had a lot of tensions," Matt explained in a separate clip from the show, "so right around Thanksgiving, I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we'll try that. Amy and I stuck it out for years and years when maybe we shouldn't have. I never quite felt at home in my own home, so something needed to change."

Many familiar with the show were not surprised by the separation, having watched communication break down between Amy and Matt and tensions grow between the couple. However, there was a great deal of sadness surrounding the announcement.

"We sincerely appreciate the unwavering support, understanding and prayers from our family, friends and many fans," the couple said in a joint statement. "May God bless you."
