Liverpool Compiling Medical History of Sidelined Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been sidelined once more for six weeks after breaking down during training Monday. It has been the second time this season that he has injured a muscle but the team's medical staff are digging the player's medical records to figure out why he has gone down with the injury twice in the same season.

The team's manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Monday's misshap is Sturridge's ninth injury involving his left thigh over the past few years. The England training regime was initially blamed for the player's predicament but it is looking to be a much deeper problem.

"We reckon it's his ninth injury on the same thing from previous clubs here and there. So there seems to be an underlying issue somewhere. Our medical team are looking into it, the latest scans show a slight tear just below where he had a previous injury," Rodgers says.

"Daniel is very disappointed and so are we. It is hugely disappointing to be without a player of his quality," he adds. "Most players you will find want to play through an injury to get on to the field and when the incident happened in training it was through quite an innocuous action. He just flicked the ball and instantly felt the pain, it wasn't a shot or anything that looked as if it might be serious."

In the meantime they will have to find a player to replace Sturridge and Rodgers has been considering the possibility of recalling Divock Origi from loan at Lille early but it wouldn't happen until January, as well as the fact that they would have to put out an extra £3 million for him.

"For the time being we just have to focus on the players we do have. We have to make the best of what is available," Rodgers said.
