Meanwhile Anzhi are top of Group A after the first two games to the surprise of most pundits, after a win and a draw so far in their opening matches. They would be happy to take a point from today's match at Anfield and then try and steal the three points when they take Liverpool back to their own ground in the next game.

Anzhi's manager is Guss Hiddink who was in charge at Chelsea in 2009, guiding them to the FA Cup trophy by beating Everton at Wembley 2-1. The former Chelsea manager has said: "This season Liverpool have had a problematic start, but this is a huge institution - it will always recover. "

He added, "Liverpool will always resurrect and come up to the top where they belong. You have to realize that the Premier League is one of the leading leagues in the world of football. Although Liverpool are not in the top three at this moment, they have some experienced players and they are going for this competition and looking to go further in Europe. They are favorites and not us. I think Liverpool are the favorites in this group."

Anzhi also have Eto'o in their ranks following an $29.5 million move in 2011.
