MacBook Air 2014 Retina Release Date: 'Smaller, Slimmer' and Improved Design

With the smartphone rumors slowly dying down, there springs another tech-topic that is now circulating around the internet: the purported 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina Display.

According to MacWorld, the new MacBook line up is said to merge the portability of the 11-inch model to that of the power and capacity-centric features of the 13-inch versions.

Though it is alleged to be smaller and slimmer, the Macbook Air 2014 is rather power-packed as it will have the latest 14 nanometer Intel Broadwell chip – the one with the fanless design – under the hood.

BGR's report cited a source who revealed that "the display bezels are noticeably thinner, quite similar to the current MacBook Pro Retina lineup." The instrument will also be space-efficient and that the speaker has been moved above the keyboard, making it "visible."

They added that the new Retina MacBook will eradicate the MagSafe connector, replacing instead a "new, mysterious, battery charging technology" that will be new to the Mac line. Needless to say, the "alternative charging method" hasn't been confirmed nor finalized yet.

The Epoch Times, meanwhile, shared their bits of information by also citing a source that is "familiar with Apple's plans." It was rumored that the purported MacBook will arrive in iPhone 6 colors (Gold, Silver, Space Grey) and that it will ditch off the standard USB port in favor of the new "reversible USB Type C" port.

"The USB Type-C specification was developed to provide consumers with a robust connector for everything from mobile devices to PCs, and when combined with SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps and USB Power Delivery, it truly enables a single cable solution for the market," the news website quoted USB-IF President and COO, Jeff Ravencraft's press release statement.

Although still unconfirmed, the Macbook Air 2014 could launch "at the end of 2014 or in 2015."
