MacBook Air 2017 Lineup To Be Discontinued in Favor of MacBook Pro?

After favoring fans with a new MacBook Pro in 2016, tech giant Apple has remained mum about plans for its MacBook Air series this year. However, there are rumors that the company will unveil a new model soon, considering its substantial value decrease in retail stores recently.

Last month, Best Buy reportedly cut the cost of the MacBook Air. Since a reduction in retail cost often suggests that a more current model will arrive, tech enthusiasts have speculated that Apple might introduce a new model of the MacBook Air soon.

Despite Apple's silence, speculations about the fate of the MacBook Air series continue to get rife, with some even guessing its likely date of release, specs and features.

There are speculations that if the MacBook Air 2017 is true, then Apple users can expect the new gadget to come with Intel's Kaby Lake processor, a USB Type-C port, an Apple Pencil trackpad, Touch ID with Force Touch and a Retina display. The new unit will also reportedly sport an E-link console.

As for its launch date, the 2017 MacBook Air model is said to arrive sometime between March and May of this year. However, fans can only speculate for now since Apple has not yet given any official update on the highly anticipated model.

Meanwhile, some rumors claim that after a disappointing MacBook Air last year, Apple has already decided to discontinue the series. It can be recalled that in 2016, the MacBook Air series came under fire for adding only 8 GB of random-access memory (RAM) to its 13-inch model. Discontinuation rumors came after the company ceased the production of the 11-inch MacBook Air variant.

There are also rumors that since the MacBook Pro offers almost the same features as the MacBook Air, the tech giant is now gearing up to have the MacBook Air series replaced with the MacBook Pro series. This is especially since the latest MacBook Pro model has already overshadowed the signature lightweight feature of the MacBook Air.
