MacBook Air Retina Release Date, Specs and Features: 12-inch Laptop and Other Revamped Features Rumored

Apple is reportedly preparing an all-new MacBook Air offering for 2015, according to reports.

The purported device will arrive with a "radically new design," 9to5Mac.com reported. Some of the changes that are to be expected by buyers are the eradication of the full-sized USB ports, MagSafe connectors, as well as SD Card slots.

The trade off, as stated by the website, would be that of a "markedly thinner and lighter body" coupled with a "higher-resolution display."

Citing sources within the Cupertino-based tech giant, the publication went on to describe the specs of the "revamped" MacBook Air from an artist's rendition of the forthcoming device.

The alleged device will be considerably smaller by an inch than the current-gen 13-inch version. It will also be thinner than what the 11-inch model measures.

"The new 12-inch version is approximately a quarter-of-an-inch narrower than the 11-inch version, yet it is also a quarter-of-an-inch taller in order to accommodate the slightly larger display," the site stated.

To further accommodate the relatively large screen into the smaller body, designers have to reduce all the bezels on the display.

Aside from the unit's dimension, the measurement of the 12-inch MacBook Air's keyboard, trackpad, and speakers are also changed profoundly.

"The entire key set has been subtly redesigned so that each key sits noticeably closer together," the site added.

The trackpad, on the other hand, will have the same width as what the 11-inch MacBook Air has but with a slightly taller height that will nearly touch the bottom of the keyboard and frame.

Items on both sides of the ports also see huge changes.

On the right side, only the standard headphone jack and dual-microphones (input and noise-canceling) were retained. There's only the new USB Type-C port to be seen on the left side.

Referred by insiders as "MacBook Stealth," the forthcoming tech device is said to arrive in mid-2015. Other sources like MacRumors meanwhile said that production of Air is still undergoing production.
