Macbook Air Retina 2014 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Late 2014 or Early 2015 Launch?

Apple will be busy in the coming months, with all the releases lined up for their various product lines; one of which is the new Macbook Air with Retina Display. There is still no established release date but it may come out later this year or early next year.

The new Macbook Air is looking to get a new size variant, a Retina display, as well as the new Intel Broadwell chips.

The current Macbook Air had two versions, an 11-inch and a 13-inch version. While both variants are the same in terms of specs, the 11-inch version was made to be more portable than the 13-inch version.

Now, the new Macbook Air with Retina Display is to be a 12-incher, boasting to have the portability of the 11-inch with the capabilities of the 13-inch. With the new size variant, it could be possible that either sizes could get replaced.

The Intel Broadwell chip is also a slight performance boost for the upcoming Macbook Air but in addition to more power, it will enable the ultrabook to be built without a fan. Earlier versions of the Macbook Air had a fan installed in the unit which resulted in an awkward bulge just below the keyboard.

With the new 14-nm Broadwell chips, the Macbook Air with Retina Display could be sporting a newer, fanless, ultralight, and ultrathin chassis. The new Macbook Air could also get a new trackpad design where it would do away with the mechanical clicker.

The Macbook Air with Retina Display was supposed to be released during the holiday season but Intel had previously experienced a delay in their chip production. Intel had picked up production again recently but it is still uncertain whether they would meet Apple's demands before the end of the year.
