'Mad Max 5: The Wasteland' Release Date: 'Fury Road' Sequel May Be Doubtful
"Mad Max" has not been visible in theaters for such a long time that George Miller was so surprised at how the viewers welcomed "Mad Max: Fury Road" when it was released last summer.
Despite "Mad Max: Fury Road" devoting only a small portion to the backstory of the characters and a majority of the film to chase scenes, the viewers welcomed Tom Hardy's character Mad Max and Charlize Theron's Furiosa. The audience may be clamoring for a sequel to Miller's film, but "Mad Max 5: The Wasteland" may not be in the cards in the near future, according to the Gospel Herald.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" generated a lot of income and also harvested good reviews from viewers and critics. Director Miller also revealed during the Comic-Con 2014 that he already had two scripts: one for "Fury Road" and another for "Mad Max: Furiosa." The latter would have satisfied the audience's craving for a backstory on Theron's character, including the history of her amputated arm and her exclusion from Immortan Joe's harem, the report details.

Miller had reportedly been planning a simultaneous production of "Fury Road" and "Furiosa," but he ended up with just one. He was hoping that "Fury Road" would generate the demand for a sequel, and there are rumors that "Wasteland" would be the intended sequel.
However, Miller himself said "Furiosa's" inclusion in the "Fury Road" sequel is still unsure, despite Theron's character outshining Tom Hardy's in the first movie. He explained that he cannot reveal more details about the possible sequel because they are still working on it, The Verge reports.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" generated $374 million in revenue worldwide. But most of the budget took up the cost for practical effects, and the base budget was $155 million. If a sequel is to be in order, "Mad Max" may have to stick with a smaller budget, the report suggests.
There is a possibility that "Mad Max 5: The Wasteland" will only be made if the demand surges and when Warner Brothers needs to have a hit movie. Miller confirmed though that the backstories on all the film's characters are already done and that there will be two more movies.
