'Madam Secretary' season 2 spoilers: Morgan Freeman to guest star

The new political drama series "Madam Secretary" is now headed into new season. In the previous season's finale, Bess (Tea Leoni), the secretary of State, was being questioned about some of her past actions in front of a panel of senators, to which she responded in her characteristic sassy manner. The closing scene was a flashback of Bess leaving the CIA and celebrating with friends Conrad (Keith Carradine), Juliet (Nilaja Sun), and Munsey (Patrick Breen).

In the upcoming season, fans will meet Lydia Dalton, the First Lady, as she hosts a dinner party in the White House, which will become very tense. This will be just the first of many encounters with the First Family, as they will be featured more heavily this season. Stevie (Wallis Currie-Wood), Elizabeth's oldest child, will be seeing Harrison, Conrad's son, more.

Academy award-winning actor Morgan Freeman will appear on the show as a Supreme Court Justice and he will have a scene with Bess. He is also an executive producer of the show and he will be directing the premiere episode.

The forthcoming season is set to open with a shocker as the president's plane, Air Force One, goes missing, and Bess finds herself in a precarious position.

The former U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright and the first female in that position is going to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming season as herself. She will be giving Bess some sound and sage advice during a crisis.

The new season will also introduce a new character named Jane Fellows (Jill Hennessy), a discreet yet commanding political operator who happens to be Henry's (Tim Daly) new handler in the agency. Fellows will be known for her ability to keep cool even during a crisis, and she will not always see eye to eye with Henry.

The first season finale was a bit lackluster. However, the episodes prior to that introduced viewers to the central characters of the show and showcased interesting drama at its finest. The upcoming season promises to deliver even more crazy international incidents and personal problems for all of its main characters as the political drama continues.

Madam Secretary will air on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
