Fans loved Mikkelsen's "bleeding eye" act as James Bond's arch enemy in "Casino Royale." Next was the critically acclaimed TV show "Hannibal" where Mikkelsen played the spectacular forensic psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter with an unusual gourmet taste.

Marvel is collecting quite a stellar cast for Doctor Strange. It already has on board - Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, and now it is rumored that Mikkelsen will battle it out with Doctor Strange.

It is still not confirmed which villain Mikkelsen might be playing. Ejiofor is already playing the role of Baron Mordo. So either Mikkelsen will assist Baron Mordo in his plan to destroy Doctor Strange or he will be cast as another main villain.

Marvel had approached Mikkelsen earlier to offer him a role in "Thor" but nothing came of it. It is also reported that Benedict Cumberbatch was not Marvel's first choice – it was Joaquin Pheonix, who refused the role as he felt it was not fulfilling enough for him.

Doctor Strange is the story of a neurosurgeon who injures his hands badly and now cannot continue his career. He requests Earth's Sorcerer Supreme, The Ancient One, to help him out. Tilda Swinton, in the role of "The Ancient One," helps him in realizing that he has the potential to rid the world of some villains. It is here that the villains gang up and try to eliminate Dr. Strange. If all pushes through, Mikkelsen will be joining the bandwagon of villains out to destroy Dr. Strange.

"Doctor Strange" is set to be released on Nov. 4, 2015.
