January 18, 2014|10:35 pm

"Man Of Steel" fans awaiting the sequel will be forced to wait close to an additional year before it is released, The Warner Bros studios recently announced.

While fans were initially given a July 2015 date to view the yet to be titled sequel that has Henry Cavill returning as Superman and Ben Affleck signing on as Batman, they will now have to wait until May 6, 2016. The studio is taking time to "fully realize their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story," according to E! news.

It seems the production studio will release a Peter Pan film adaptation before bringing the "Man of Steel" film to life, which features Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

"We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases," Dan Fellman, president of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bro said, according to E!. "We share the fans' excitement to see DC Comics' most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today's moviegoers."

Zack Snyder, directed Man of Steel which was released this year and grossed over $649 million worldwide. Although the sequel to Man of Steel has yet to be titled, Snyder spoke about Affleck joining Cavill's Superman character in a statement last year.

"Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," Snyder said in the statement, according to Entertainment Weekly reports. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne."
