Roberto Mancini and City were able to chip away at the hefty United lead atop the Premier League and are now only five points behind the Red Devils after City was able to beat Fulham during their last league match.
United is not scheduled to play a league game until Wednesday, giving Mancini and his side an opportunity to close the gap even further.
City has been looking good recently and has won their last six matches in all competitions. Their most recent win came at Britannia Stadium on Saturday, when they knocked Stoke out of the FA Cup.
For Harry Redknapp and QPR, their recent run has not be quite as picturesque. QPR was thoroughly outplayed and upset after they lost at home to League One team MK Dons 4-2, which promptly put the club out of the FA Cup.
The poor showing over the weekend ended the club's five match unbeaten run and cast serious doubts over whether or not Redknapp could save QPR from dropping out of the league.
QPR remain five points below the relegation line even though the club had not lost a Premier League game in their last three. They are joined by both Wigan and Reading, who are currently each four points clear of the drop zone.
It will not be easy for QPR to come away with any point's against the defending champions, but the absence of Micah Richards and Vincent Kompany will aid in their efforts.
The pairs first meeting of the season in September saw QPR lose in Manchester 3-1 after conceding a last second goal during the last second of the final game last season to give the league title to City.
Kick-off for the match is at 2:45 ET and can be watched online here.
