Manchester United News 2015: Jesse Lingard Tapped for England Duty

Due to injuries to fellow Manchester United player Michael Carrick and Leicester City standout Jamie Vardy, Jess Lingard has been tapped to play for England in Tuesday's friendly against France to be played at Wembley Stadium.

In a statement released Sunday, the FA said that Lingard is called up in order to help the English squad that lost to Spain, 2-0 on Friday, to redeem itself and hopefully win against a French side that won against Germany earlier amidst terrorist attacks in Paris. The expected stint is the first time for the 22-year-old Lingard in the senior squad. He, however, did represent England at the under-21, as well as the under-17 teams.

Lingard is currently enjoying a breakthrough season for Manchester United; highlighted by a goal against West Bromwich Albion the last time out. He appeared seven times for the club so far, but some say he still isn't ready for the responsibility of carrying the country's flag in international competition. The young player has played a little over 193 minutes in the Premier League, which is actually quite short.

The midfielder posted a pciture on his Instagram account, showing him during his stint with under-21 team. He placed a caption, "Delighted to be called up to the England senior squad, it's always an honor to wear the shirt."

Meanwhile, Carrick got the ankle injury during the final moments of the club's defeat to Spain, but he has since returned to his team, Manchester United after fears of a serious injury. Vardy's injury, on the other hand, came from a game last weekend, thereby making him ineligible for the friendly against France.

With the terrorist attack in France, there are some speculations as to whether the team would proceed with Tuesday's friendly. However, the French football federation released a statement on Saturday saying that the game will proceed.
