Manchester United Transfer Rumors, News 2014: Utd Wait on Victor Valdes' Plans, Looks to Replace David de Gea

Premier League club Manchester United has been eyeing former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes and is "waiting to see" what the Spain goalkeeper's plans are for the season. Currently, Valdes is a free-agent after leaving Barcelona June earlier this year and is still to decide where he will reside.

He was unable to attend the World Cup 2014 due to a serious knee injury but fellow Spanish teammate Juan Mata says that the keeper has been training with Manchester United in an attempt to get his full health back.

"I speak regularly with Victor Valdes, he's training with us. We're waiting to see what his plans are," Mata says.

Reports suggest that Manchester is looking to sign Valdes as a replacement to veteran David de Gea, not as back-up. There have been suggestions that De Gea is looking to move to Real Madrid, where he is views this time as a replacement for Iker Casillas.

Casillas has been subject to doubts in his ability to hold down the line in matches as well as his worth in keeping the number one jersey.

De Gea's contract will be expiring at the end of the next season and puts Manchester in a position where they must decide to sell him to other clubs or sign him to another contract.

However, since Valdes is currently training with the Old Trafford club, a search for a replacement may not be needed.
