Manny Pacquiao News: Journalist Gives Reason Why Pac-Bradley 3 Did Not Do Well; Pacquiao at Number Three in Senatorial Poll

The rubber match between eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley was considered a flop, as stated by its post-fight pay-per-view numbers.

According to a report by Dan Rafael for ESPN.com last April 21st, the said fight merely raked in "between 400,000 and 500,000 HBO PPV buys". Top Rank chief Bob Arum simply described it as "terrible." "It was not one of our big successes. It happens," Arum said.

"We're big boys. Do I feel good about it? No." The said fight was also the retirement fight of Pacquiao, who will now be focusing on being a full-time public servant in his home country of the Philippines. He retired with a win-loss slate of 58-6-2, with 38 wins by knockout.

What is generally deemed as a disappointing result with an elite fighter on the card was attributed a number of reasons. Veteran journalist Lance Pugmire recently identified them in his latest article for the Los Angeles Times.

The first factor that Pugmire noted was the criticism that Pacquiao received after making a controversial remark opposing same-sex marriage in an early February interview. Another factor he took note of was Pacquiao's "uncharacteristic" performance during the May 2nd 2015 fight against Floyd Mayweather.

The report, however noted that Mayweather's retirement fight against Andre Berto did not do that well, either, also generating a mere 400,000 buys.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao's senatorial candidacy seems to be on the right track. In a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Filipino boxing icon is currently ranked number three at the Senatorial poll, with less than two weeks to go before Election Day on May 9th.

The report adds that the said survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) was conducted after his fight against Bradley last April 9th.

Pacquiao, who has been criticized as a Congressman for having attended only four sessions in 2014, promises to put his sole focus on being a Senator, should he win in the elections.
