Manny Pacquiao News: Pacquiao Brothers Start Own Dynasty in Philippine Politics

It is only a matter of time before eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao officially becomes a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines.

As of posting time, "Pacman" is currently situated at the number seven spot out of the 50 candidates vying for a senatorial seat. Out of the 50, a mere 12 will be selected to hold the said position. According to local news media outlet Rappler, Pacquiao has so far amassed 15,592,240 as of 1:04 p.m. on May 16 PHT.

The canvassing of votes is expected to finish before the month ends and once made official, Pacquiao will assume office on July 1st.

However, Manny is not the only soon-to-be politician in the family. In a report by Bob Velin via Boxing Junkie, younger brother Bobby, a former professional boxer himself, won as one of the 12 councilors in General Santos City, with a total of 95,092 votes.

Unlike "Pacman", Bobby holds a less stellar record of 31-15-3, with 16 wins by knockout. He retired in 2008 and competed for 11 years.

Another Pacquiao, Rogelio, also won a seat in congress. He will be representing Sarangani Province, the prior position held by the PacMan. Rogelio or Roel garnered more than 86 percent of votes.

While Manny has been undoubtedly one of the best in the realm of professional boxing, his political accomplishments so far have been nothing less than noteworthy. Prior to his senatorial run, he was previously criticized for having attended only four congress sessions in 2014, as per Inquirer.

This time, however, Pacquiao promises to devote himself to public service. This was the same promise he made after his 66th and final professional fight last April 9 against former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
