Manny Ramirez Gets Second Chance From Texas Rangers

Ramirez wants another chance to return to the Major Leagues, and the Texas Rangers are providing him with that opportunity. The team has offered the 41-year-old former pro a minor league contract.

Ramirez was playing for a team overseas, but he has decided he wants to return to America and try to re-enter the major league. His agent, Barry Praver, explained why Ramirez left his overseas team.

"The reason he decided not to return for the second half was to free himself to be available to play in the United States," Praver said according to Fox News.

The Ranger General Manager Jon Daniels explained why the Rangers extened the offer to Ramierz.

"It's a no-risk flyer in a lot of ways. Our history, we like giving guys second chances. We know on and off the field the good and bad of Manny's career, but we're inclined to give him an opportunity here," he said.

Playing on the minor league team will give Daniels and the Rangers an opportunity to watch Manny play and see how he conducts himself before they sign him to their team.

"If he's productive and we feel he'd fit our culture here, we'll give him an opportunity. If either of those ends don't pan out, no harm, no foul," Daniels said.

As to how Daniels will be deciding on whether or not to offer Manny a chance to play with the Rangers, the GM explained it will take a bit more than pure talent.

"When it comes to playing for the Rangers, two things are important to us. You have to be talented and productive. And just as important, you have to fit our winning culture. Those are going to be the two tests we'll judge Manny by," Daniels said.
