Mark Zuckerberg Recruits at Harvard University, 7 Years After Dropping Out of Alma Mater

College dropout Mark Zuckerberg returned to his alma mater Harvard University Monday to announce his social network website, Facebook, is hiring.

Dozens of students crowded the Harvard campus to take photos of the 27-year-old billionaire, who founded Facebook in 2004, when he was a mere sophomore in college.

Zuckerberg delivered a speech to 250 Harvard University students gathered outside of the Lamont library. In his speech, Zuckerberg focused on the importance of change and fresh creativity, urging students to pursue employment at Facebook, Inc.

“There’s a lot of really smart people here and a lot of them are making decisions about where they're going to work,” he told reporters and students.

Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook while attending Harvard. He had originally created the social network site FaceMash, in which students could vote on the compared physical attractiveness of two people. He created Facebook at the same time Harvard was creating its own students-only online directory.

He initially made Facebook solely for Harvard students, using the allure of exclusivity as a marketing tool.

During his speech on Monday, Zuckerberg addressed the importance of reinvention for staying relevant.

“We're just getting started,” Zuckerberg said of Facebook’s development, which already has an estimated worth of $50 billion, according to CNN.

“The next five or 10 years are going to be about all the different products and industries that can be rethought,” he added.

This is Zuckerberg’s first official visit to the Harvard University Campus since he dropped out in 2004, USA Today contends.

Statistics show Facebook to be the largest social networking site in the world, with 800 million active users.

In March, Zuckerberg was voted as one of the world’s youngest billionaires, having a net worth of $17.5 billion dollars.

Forbes voted him the ninth most powerful person due to his invention, which changed the way the world communicates.

The social networking site is currently based in Palo Alto, California, along with fellow Silicon Valley hard hitters Google and Hewlett Packard.

Zuckerberg also visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology seeking employees. As Associated Press contends, Zuckerberg’s recruitment is a godsend in such dire economic times.
