Marshawn Lynch Retirement Rumors 2016: Seahawks Confirm Wordless Announcement
Everyone's hooked up on Super Bowl 50 last Sunday, so someone who wants to make a news headline should come up with something intriguing enough to steal some attention from America's biggest sporting event. That is what exactly Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch did by announcing his retirement in pro football using nothing but an image of what appears to be hanging cleats.
While the couple of days that followed were marred in speculations and rumors, the team eventually confirmed the news that Lynch has in fact retired, prematurely ending his career in the NFL. Sounds surprising? Well, everyone seems to be feeling that way, too.
The image Lynch posted via Twitter was eventually followed by another cryptic message from his teammate, cornerback Richard Sherman, who tweeted, "Salute to my guy @MoneyLynch… It was an honor sharing the field with you."

By looking at every possible angle, this kind of announcement from a professional football player (and a popular one) like Lynch is no way classy or refined. As a matter of fact, it can be construed as unprofessional and insulting to the team. However, many believe it was fitting. Quarterback Russell Wilson seems to have no issues about how Lynch did it. "Honor playing with one of the best running backs of all time! Going to miss sharing the backfield with you 24," he tweeted.
As of this posting, the Seahawks haven't officially recognized his retirement, but the team's official Twitter account did re-tweet his tweet coupled with the hashtag "#ThankYouBeastMode," referring to Lynch's favorite moniker.
The five-time Pro Bowl will definitely be missed and his offensive contributions to the Seahawks mean there will be a significant hole to fill next season. They'll have to figure out a way to fill that gap the soonest time possible. He'll be exiting a team where he has set several records with, including being second all-time for Seattle in rushing touchdowns and third in total touchdowns.
