The previous episode began where the pilot episode ended when Fitz tried to get himself sucked into the portal. The team rushed in and stopped him just in time. Fitz discovered a speck of dust that gave him a renewed sense of hope.

The team than enlisted the help of an Asguardian named Professor Randolph. Fitz, Bobbi, and Coulson, along with the professor, went to an old English castle where they discovered a place that houses a machine that could open and close the monolith.

Mack and Daisy brought the monolith and they managed to open the portal. The machine broke as Daisy's nose bled and she fainted due to a noise only she could hear. Later on, Daisy opened the portal herself as Fitz jumped into the portal in order to find Simmons. Daisy's nose bled again as the monolith shattered. Luckily, both Fitz and Simmons made it back safely. Simmons was cleared physically but not mentally.

Meanwhile, Ward was rebuilding Hydra by tracking down the children of former Hydra leaders and testing them. He found Werner Von Strucker who joined him. Elsewhere, May had been living with her father, but she was found by Hunter who wanted her help in going after Hydra. The episode ended with Werner as he joined the class of Andrew Garner, May's ex-husband.
