'Mass Effect: Andromeda' News: Bioware Shows Off Gameplay
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is launching on March 21, which is just a month away. Just in case the hype for the game is not enough, game developer BioWare has released a new video to fan the flames. This new trailer goes over in detail the game's combat, movement, weapons and character customization.
This trailer is the first part of the official gameplay video series. The introduction shows off some of the game's environments and combat, as well as a couple of the new characters. The players will take on the role of the Pathfinder, an "ultimate adventurer," on a mission to explore the vast Andromeda galaxy in search for a new place for humanity.
The video dives right into an introduction to weapons and skills. The Jumpjet is the immediate highlight in the way it allows the player to dodge, hover and perform limited airborne dashes. The cover system is still there, and improved a little this time as almost anything in the environment can be used as cover.

The weapons for "Mass Effect: Andromeda" consolidate some of the weapon mechanics previously seen in the "Mass Effect" series. The familiar gun types are there — pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles and assault rifles, but there is no sub-machine gun category, unlike in the previous installment. Melee weapons have their own weapon category as well.
Unlike the previous "Mass Effect" games, all gun categories are available for use, with no class restrictions.
The idea of prebuilt classes, in general, is absent in "Mass Effect: Andromeda." Gameplay customization in the new game will not involve choosing a class, but instead will revolve around the player's choice of skills and equipment.
Skills are grouped into three categories familiar to "Mass Effect" fans: Combat, Biotics and Tech. Players can further customize each skill by investing points into its skill tree.
