'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Gameplay: New Details Hint At Story Line

With a good number of new games that prove to be worth the investment, it is only reasonable that the "Mass Effect" team be more serious in the path they have chosen to trod — a world with Captain Shepard in "Mass Effect: Andromeda."

When it was first revealed that there will be a new protagonist in the upcoming installment, some fans immediately cracked up. Some questioned what the development team was planning, especially since Shepard has largely become a part of the players' journey all throughout the trilogy.

However, the team explained earlier that Shepard's journey was over when players completed "Mass Effect 3." It will obviously take some time before fans get over the news that Shepard's time is up and a new leader is on the rise.

Multiple outlets reported earlier this month that a hawk-eyed fan spotted what could be the name of the game's new protagonist. In the trailer released by BioWare, the fan zoomed in on a dog tag that seems to show the name "RYDER" or "RIDER." The name is a good choice, according to the gaming experts since it gives honor to Sally Ride, the first American woman who stepped on outer space.

Meanwhile, a Reddit user by the name self.masseffect revealed some important details about ME:4. Part of the user's post reads: "You are a pathfinder, a combat trained by un-tested explorer leading an expedition into the Helius cluster to establish a new home for humanity."

Some followers suggested that the post actually reveals what challenges players will face in the upcoming game. The players aren't heroes yet, unlike Captain Shepard, who already has a lot of trophies to his name before heeding the call in the previous installments.

The post also indicates that the player will need to climb the long ladder to becoming a real and certified hero just like his predecessor.

It should also be noted that Creative Director Mac Walters said (via BioWare's official blog) that the fourth game is all about turning oneself into the second-generation Shepard. "For the next Mass Effect, however, we've been looking at more of a hero's journey: how you become a legend and what it takes to get there," he said.
