In character for an upcoming biopic, Matt Damon and Michael Douglas have been spotted looking as if they were lifted straight from the 1970s era.

Damon, 41, donned shaggy, long hair and a bell-bottomed suit to complete his retro look while filming in Beverly Hills, Calif. Monday. Veteran actor Douglas sported a similar suit and dark, gaudy sunglasses.

Both starring in "Behind the Candelabra," the biopic tells the controversial story of gay, flamboyant pianist Wladziu Valentino Liberace- known simply as Liberace- who kept his dark and controversial personality hidden from the public.

Douglas will portray the gilded musician while Damon portrays his much-younger lover, Scott Thorson, who in real life released a tell-all book about his life with Liberace.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh is directing the project, which will air on HBO next year. The director was at the helm of past films including "Traffic," "Ocean's 11," and "Magic Mike."

Ahead of production, Damon revealed that some of the movie's plot and that the homosexual scenes between him and his co-star would shock audience members.

In an attempt to accurately portray Liberace, "Behind the Candelabra" will include elaborate sets that come from the luxurious lifestyle the pianist was known to lead.

Liberace died at age 67 of AIDS in 1987.

"Behind the Candelabra" will also star Rob Lowe, Debbie Reynolds, Dan Aykroyd, Scott Bakula, and Cheyenne Jackson.

Damon most recently appeared in the family-friendly drama "We Bought A Zoo" alongside Scarlett Johansson.

The Boston, Mass. native got his start in Hollywood by co-writing and starring in 1997's "Good Will Hunting" with good friend Ben Affleck, who is also from Boston. The pair earned an Academy Award for Best Screenplay as well as a Golden Globe, and Damon coveted multiple Best Actor nominations for the film.

Damon's other film credits include the "Bourne" film series, "The Departed," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," and "Invictus," among many others.
