The newest rumor has circulated that Ryan Seacrest may be heading towards NBC's Today Show in an attempt to steal Matt Lauer's job.
Ryan Seacrest appeared on the Today Show Wednesday morning to clear the air about the rumor involving a scuffle between himself and Matt Lauer. NBC had made an announcement that Seacrest would be joining the network and fans quickly began to speculate that his involvement would have something to do with the "Today Show."
Lauer began the interview by suggesting that he would handle the situation as he handles all other guests who come on the show.
"What kind of conversations have you had with NBC about joining the 'Today' show?" Lauer asked.
"Oh they didn't tell you?" Seacrest joked.
Seacrest later explained the NBC and E! News, which he has been a part of for some years, are of the same family. With that in mind the network has the intention of slowly merging Seacrest into the NBC side of the family, while still continuing his work for E! News. His first NBC opportunity will be for the 2012 Olympics.
The news may have been disappointing for some who were prepared for a face-off between the long time news anchor and the "American Idol" host. However, the pair did discuss a future for Seacrest on the "Today" show.
"Do you see yourself doing a job like this?" Lauer asked.
"You know, I don't know," Seacrest said. "I see you doing this for as long as you want to, so maybe the question is, how long will you be on the 'Today' show? ... Because fans, myself included, think you should be here for years to come."
Matt Lauer responded that he believed that Seacrest would be very good at his job. Despite rumors that Seacrest will no longer appear as the host of "American Idol," he also stated that he would stay with the show although he was not ready to make an official announcement.
