Matthew McConaughey Being Courted by Both DC and Marvel for Superhero Films

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, known for his recent portrayal of an AIDS patient in the "Dallas Buyers Club," may be the next Hollywood A-lister actor who will join the superhero bandwagon. The actor recently revealed that he has been "courted" by rival studios DC Entertainment and Marvel Studios.

Comic book adaptations have become big business in Hollywood recently and through the years they have drawn high caliber actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Christian Bale in major movie franchises. So this recent revelation is not surprising. McConaughey even said that he has gone as far as reading scripts from both studios.

McConaughey told Variety in a recent interview that he has read several scripts, but he has yet to find a "right part." He however said that he was very interested in doing such a project.

"I've red some Marvel and DC scripts and I've talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I'll share with you what they are -- or were. Yeah, I've circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I'm sure open to it," the actor explained.

Screen Rant reported that studios are showing keen interest in getting the actor on board in any of its projects not only because of his acting prowess, but also because "he's a marquee name that could sell casual audiences on something more outlandish than a Batman or Spider-Man movie." They may need this as both studios are looking to develop movies from new material that may be unfamiliar to the public.

When asked about what would make him sign up for a long-term commitment to a franchise, he had this to say:

"Contractually, you're going to return to the character over and over. It's something I asked myself is it something I'd want to return to. Would I be excited to go back and put the shoes on the character again? Going and doing the press tour with that group of people again? I always ask myself those questions again. It starts with the story and character."
