Matthew McConaughey made headlines with his Oscar win and speech thanking God for the blessings in his life. Now the actor is again going public and expressing his gratitude for friends, family, and the direction his life has gone.
"I try to give a lot to my life and the people in it," McConaughey told People magazine, "and I know they sure give back. I have a lot to be thankful for. My life outside my career is extremely enriching. So I am letting that feed my work, and letting my work feed my life."
McConaughey is extremely grateful for his family, which includes wife Camila and their kids Levi, Vida, and Livingston. They have been married since 2012, and his career has continued to take off and earn him rave reviews and Academy Awards. But McConaughey is not taking anything for granted, and in his latest Oscars speech, gave thanks to God for his win.
"There's three things that I need each day," McConaughey said. "One of them is something to look up to, another is something to look forward to, and another is someone to chase. First off, I want to thank God 'cause that's who I look up to. He's graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand. He has shown me that it's a scientific fact that gratitude receiprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Lawton who said, 'when you got God, you got a friend and that friend is you.'"
McConaughey has evolved from a young Texan to a certified Hollywood star, but he has not forgotten his roots. He started the "just keep livin" foundation to help youth become better and grow into fine men and women. McConaughey is dedicated to helping others and raising his own family the best that he can.
He currently stars in the HBO series "True Detective" and is rumored to appear in "Magic Mike 2," which is a sequel to the unexpected hit, "Magic Mike."
