Actress Mayim Bialik has announced that she will seek divorce after a nine year marriage.

The "Big Bang" actress stated Wednesday in an online statement that she would seek a divorce from Michael Stone following a nine year marriage; the couple initially wed in August of 2003.

"After much consideration and soul-searching, Michael and I have arrived at the decision to divorce due to 'Irreconcilable Differences,'' the mother-of-two wrote on her online website.

Bialik first became known as an actress for her role in the 1990's sitcom "Blossom." With a doctoral degree in neuroscience from UCLA, specializing in obsessive-compulsive disorder in adolescents, Bialik recently released a book on attachment parenting. Her views on the controversial topic however, played no role in her decision to seek divorce according to the actress.

"The hands-on style of parenting we practice played no role in the changes that led to this decision; relationships are complicated no matter what style of parenting you choose," the actress explained.

She also announced that during the divorce, her children would now be her main focus.

"Divorce is terribly sad, painful and incomprehensible for children. It is not something we have decided lightly," she wrote on her website.

"The main priority for us now is to make the transition to two loving homes as smooth and painless as possible. Our sons deserve parents committed to their growth and health and that's what we are focusing on," she added before asking for privacy for her family. "Our privacy has always been important and is even more so now, and we thank you in advance for respecting it as we negotiate this new terrain."

Baliak and her husband first met while in grad school, during which time they had their first son. The actress finished her statement with, "We will be ok."
