Mayim Bialik on Religion and Divorce

"Big Bang Actor" Mayim Bialik says she blogged about her divorce process in hopes of helping other women and sharing aspects of her religion.

Raised in the Jewish faith, Bialik has described herself in the past as an "aspiring Modern Orthodox. Much of the actress' religious beliefs are shared on the Jewish parenting site Kveller. But more than just talking about parenting tips, Bialik has also spent the last year talking about her divorce.

Bialik married Michael Stone in 2003; the couple has two sons. In November of 2012 the pair announced that they had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in May, prompting Bialik to share some heart to heart moments about her experience.

The actress said she hoped blogging about some of the process would help others who might relate. The ability to explain aspects of her religion in the process was a bonus.

"I wanted to write about some of the more complicated aspects. And specifically, also, there's certain things [related] to Jewish divorce that people don't know about," Bialik said during an Access Hollywood interview.

One difference during a Jewish divorce, as compared to others, is that there is no getting out of sitting down with your ex. During the interview Bialik explained that being in the same room is part of the process.

"I wanted to write about some of the more complicated aspects. And specifically, also, there's certain things [related] to Jewish divorce that people don't know about," Bialik explained.

Despite the new changes, Bialik said in an interview this week with ABC that her kids are doing fine.

"Divorce is not fun and I don't recommend it, but kids are absolutely resilient and they are also very sensitive and complicated little people," she admits. "So, it's been a summer of adjustment, but I'm happy to report they are doing really well. Their dad is doing well and we communicate really well."

Bialik learned last month that she had been nominated for an Emmy Award for the second year in a row for her role on the "Big Bang Theory."
