'Meg' and 'The Predator' Movies News: Two Monsters to Battle at the Box Office on March 2, 2018

March 2, 2018 marks the day for a battle of two monsters, at the box-office, at least. After it was initially announced that Warner Bros. is developing a movie about a prehistoric shark, which is to be titled "Meg," the studio has recently announced that it has been earmarked the just mentioned date as the day for the said movie to hit the theaters. Incidentally, 20th Century Fox has also slated the release of its upcoming "The Predator" on the same showing date.

"Meg" is based on Steve Alten's New York Times best-selling novel and will be helmed by "National Treasure's" Jon Turteltaub. It will run on a script penned by James Vanderbilt, who also wrote the respective scripts for "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Independence Day: Resurgence."

Based on the official description of the novel as reported by Coming Soon, "Meg" follows the adventures of Jonas Taylor after coming face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the animal kingdom. Although he is sure that he saw Carcharodon megalodon, simply known as Meg, proving its existence to others becomes quite a challenge.

Taylor spends most of his life formulating theories, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg can still be lurking deep under the sea. However, he does not return to the sea until an old friend and a female submarine pilot dare him to go back in the depth via a high-tech miniature sub.

"Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he's never imagined, and what he finds could turn the tides bloody red until the end of time. MEG is about to surface. When she does, nothing and no one is going to be safe, and Jonas must face his greatest fear once again," the description concludes.

Meanwhile, Comic Book Resources reported that the upcoming "Predator" reboot will introduce some changes to the character, specifically in terms of its appearance. According to Shane Black, director of the upcoming movie, the predator will be organically different from what fans of the movie have been accustomed to.

Black said that a lot of upgrades will be done to the movie, especially to the traditional "Predator" look and technology. Despite the changes, though, he hopes that the entire story of the movie will be its selling point, not its minor details.
