The Mrs. Galaxy competition is dedicated to honoring married women who reflect "beauty, style, and cultural appreciation" according to the organization website. Last year's winner was Misti Raman, a dentist with a philanthropic streak. Demure said in a statement that she believes she has what it takes to win the competition.

"What represents me best as Mrs. Galaxy International and as a passionate volunteer for the PTA is a quote from John C. Maxwell's 'Success One Day at a Time' where he states, 'Think of the pursuit of your dream as being like a major athletic event. Train for it. As you prepare, exercise you will get stronger mentally, emotionally and physically. To successfully achieve your dream, you need to keep improving … keep your body fit; keep your heart flexible; keep your mind open'," she said according to the Trojan paper.

The women will compete in four categories: interview, evening gown, swim suit and fashion wear.
