Men's Ministry PK Delivers to Largest Crowd in 2005

Promise Keepers has held five conferences across several states in the past month. In their latest conference, held in Philadelphia, PA., this past weekend, close to 10,000 men came to learn about following Jesus.

“It’s about passionately following Jesus,” said Dr. Fortson, Promise Keepers president and CEO over the weekend.

Similarly in Arkansas, where 20,000 men turned out - making it the largest conference this year - Fortson said, "We want to unite and ignite men to passionately follow Jesus Christ and to effectively communicate the seven promises.

The seven promises form the backbone of the PK mission to "Transform Men Worldwide."

These promises charge men to worship and pray, form vital relationships with other men, uphold moral standards, build strong families, participate in a local church, experience unity with others of diverse backgrounds and uphold the Bible's 'Great Commission' to spread the message of Christianity.

"People are too busy with themselves and forget God," said Billy Wise from Fort Smith. "PK is getting everybody's mind back on the right track."

Fortson also described the job that men must do, and he prayed that “the world would be different because of today.”

“We want men who break down ethnic, cultural, racial and denomination walls. We are working for biblical unity.”

Busloads of men came to Philadelphia, and many gave their life to God for the first time.

Fran Malnati was part of a group of 60 men who came from Cornerstone Christian Church of Wyckoff, N.J.

He said, “my friend gave his life to the Lord last night. This is a weekend we’re not going to forget.”

The keynote address by former Southern Baptist Convention president and Atlanta-area pastor James Merritt from Touching Lives challenged men to live with purpose.

“Do you want to live your life as usual, or do you want to live a changed life that can change the lives of others?” he asked.

Conferences in Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Omaha, Neb., were each attended by 9,000 men, and 7,800 attended Greensboro, NC.

The international ministry based in Denver, Colorado has directly reached more than five and a half million men since 1990. This year marks its 15th year anniversary.

Promise Keepers will visit the Breslin Center at Michigan State University in East Lansing, July 8-9, the sixth stop on its 20-city tour until October.
