Team USA will be looking to take revenge on Canada after losing to the Canadians in the 2010 gold medal final game in the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Team USA have been explosive on the offense throughout the tournament, and many pundits believe they will have too much fire power for the Canadians on Friday.
Canada have looked a team slightly out of sorts throughout the tournament. They have looked lethargic and have lacked fluidity in their play far too often. If they are unable to get beyond their problems then this one could be a painful game for Team Canada.
If the form books stay true then this game should see the USA claim their revenge and move forward to the gold medal final, where as Canada will be dumped into the bronze medal final, which takes place on Saturday.
The winner of today's game will play the winner of the other semifinal game between Sweden and Finland in the gold medal final on Sunday.
USA coach Dan Bylsma seemed to reveal that the entire USA team had been vying for this Canada rematch since the tournament began. After Team USA thrashed the Czech Republic 5-2 in Wednesday's quarterfinal, USA Hockey tweeted, "Bylsma: (USA vs Canada) is a matchup we certainly all wanted … Now we have the rematch.."
Toronto Maple Leafs star, Phil Kessel, has been one of Team USA's biggest players through the hockey tournament so far, scoring 5 of the team's 20 goals to date. In comparison the Canada forwards have been toothless – their entire forward line have scored just 6 between them all.
Even in their quarterfinals, Canada only managed to limp past Latvia 2-1, and fans can expect Team USA to prove a much sterner test than the east European nation.
However, despite the consensus being that the USA will overwhelm Canada on Friday, some are highlighting that Canada are well overdue a big performance and are instead predicting a game against their fiercest rivals will wake the sleeping giant.
