'Metal Gear Solid 5' Secret Event: Konami Confirms It's for Real; Here's How to Unlock It

Konami has revealed what "Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain" fans have known since September. The details of the not-so-secret nuclear disarmament event were posted on the publisher's website.

To unlock the "Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain" secret event, the following conditions must all be fulfilled:

1. Players must have completed Mission 31.

2. Players must not own or be currently developing a nuclear weapon; otherwise, they should be dismantled.

3. Certain conditions related to nuclear proliferation must be met on the regional server for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.

4. All nuclear weapons on the regional server corresponding to the console or platform must have been dismantled. In other words, the amount of nukes on a platform's server must be equal to 0.

After fulfilling these conditions, the secret event will be triggered once players return to Mother Base or after completing a main mission.

Konami posted the stats as of Nov. 1 as 2,761 for PlayStation 4, 1,685 for PlayStation 3, 525 for Xbox One, 1,011 for Xbox 360, and 36,552 for the PC. And it has been keeping the "Metal Gear Solid V" community updated since its announcement on Nov. 26. The number of nukes owned per platform has significantly dropped by Nov. 29 to 188 for the PS4, 140 for the PS3, 52 for the Xbox One, 360 for the Xbox 360, and 11,473 for the PC.

Back in September, someone messed with the game files, found The Secret Nuclear Disarmament Event, and posted a video of the cutscene that the secret event triggers. This led to many players going about and dismantling nukes so the secret event could happen naturally.

But since it has been a couple of months already since the video of the cutscene was posted online, some may wonder if it is still worth the effort. There's also the question of how to accomplish the zero nuke scenario, if possible at all. Theories on how the almost impossible task might be done include waiting for nukes to run out because there's not enough players and for PC players to band together.
