Miami Dolphins Expresses Interest in Signing Zach Brown

Now that Dont'a Hightower has decided to return to New England, Zach Brown is suddenly getting a lot of attention since he is arguably the best linebacker available on the free agent market. He left Oakland without a deal last week. This week, it's the Miami Dolphins turn to meet him.

The Dolphins have announced that they have brought Brown in for a free-agent visit on Monday and Tuesday, but he left Miami without signing a contract. According to Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the two sides "have not closed the door on the possibility of a deal down the road."

"At the moment, the Dolphins and Brown are not close on money. But Brown has by no means ruled out the Dolphins if more financially lucrative options do not emerge," Jackson said in his report.

Citing league sources, Sun Sentinel's Omar Kelly also said Brown wanted a multi-year deal, but the Dolphins were only interested in signing him to a short-term contract. He also noted that the two sides could still come up with a deal.

Well, it sounds like Brown is keeping his options open right now. The Dolphins aren't exactly a linebacker-needy team. They already have Lawrence Timmons in the middle and Kiko Alonso as their weakside linebacker. Brown will be their starting strongside linebacker if he decides to join the team. He is versatile enough to play all three linebacker positions.

The Dolphins also have a lot of depth at the position with Trevor Riley, Mike Hull, Lamin Barrow, Deon Lacey and Brandon Watts on the roster. Koa Misi's future with the team remains uncertain, though, due to the neck injury he suffered last season.

Meanwhile, Brown also decided to part ways with agent Carl Carey and sign with Miami-based agency CSE during his visit.

Right now, Brown is off to visit his former team, the Buffalo Bills.
